ExplainThisDoc - License Agreement (EULA) and Legal Notices

Last updated: 1 October 2026

1. Provider / Contact

ExplainThisDoc is operated by Julian Heger (individual / natural person).
Address: Cumberlandstr. 40, 1140 Vienna, Austria
Email: [email protected]
Website: https://explainthisdoc.app

2. Scope and Acceptance

This License Agreement applies to the ExplainThisDoc mobile application (the "App") and any related services or website content provided with it. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to this License Agreement. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

3. License Grant

Subject to your compliance with this License Agreement, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App on Apple-branded devices you own or control, subject to the applicable App Store usage rules. Permitted Family Sharing and volume-purchase use remain available under those rules. Statutory rights and the terms of third-party components remain unaffected.

4. Restrictions

You must not, and must not attempt to:

  • reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, modify, or create derivative works of the App (except where such restriction is prohibited by law);
  • bypass, disable, or interfere with security, usage limits, or credit mechanisms;
  • use the App for automated bulk processing, scraping, abuse, or load testing without prior written permission;
  • distribute, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or otherwise make the App available to third parties.

5. Pro Credits, In-App Purchases, and Refunds

Local document storage and local analysis do not use Pro credits. A Pro request reserves one credit; the credit is charged when the analysis succeeds. Once a request has definitively failed, the reservation is released. A result awaiting retrieval after an interruption is not automatically a failed analysis. Reopening a saved result does not request another analysis.

Credits can be purchased through Apple's App Store at the price shown before confirmation. Apple handles payment processing and purchase refund requests under its applicable terms. We do not process your payment card details. These purchase arrangements do not exclude statutory remedies against the provider.

6. User Content and Responsibility

Local storage, local analysis, and Pro analysis

You can scan or import a document and keep it in the local archive without requesting an analysis. Text extraction takes place on the device. Local analysis uses Apple's on-device model where the required device, system, language, and model availability conditions are met. Document text is not sent to our analysis server or an external AI provider for this local analysis.

Pro analysis requires a network connection and sends the extracted text to our backend and the selected or configured AI provider, currently OpenAI, Mistral AI, or Qwen / Alibaba Cloud Model Studio. Original image and document files are not sent for Pro analysis. Extracted text may still contain personal or confidential information; extraction does not anonymize it.

You are responsible for the content you submit to the App (for example, extracted text from documents). Do not submit content you do not have the right to use or share, or content that violates applicable law.

Result retrieval, iCloud sync, and copies

Completed Pro results are temporarily available on our server for retrieval for up to 24 hours after completion. This is not a permanent archive. Results saved in your local archive remain there until deleted; the server retrieval period does not delete those local copies. Different rules apply to technical and purchase records and to data processed by external providers, as explained in the Privacy Policy.

Optional iCloud sync uses Apple CloudKit to synchronize archive content with your private iCloud database and your own devices. Depending on what you save, this can include original documents, extracted text, results, notes, and attachments. Synchronization depends on account access, connectivity, and available storage. Check that important content has arrived before relying on another device. Exported or shared copies are held by the destination you choose and are not removed when you delete the copy in the App.

7. AI Output Disclaimer (No Advice)

The App may generate AI-based explanations. These results are provided for informational purposes only. AI results may be incomplete, incorrect, or misleading. You remain responsible for verifying important information. The App does not provide legal, tax, medical, or financial advice.

Check names, amounts, dates, deadlines, and proposed actions against the original document. A prepared calendar entry or navigation destination requires your review and confirmation; it does not establish that a deadline is legally correct or that an action has been completed. A signature drawn in the PDF editor is an annotation, not a qualified electronic signature or identity verification. Check which form the recipient requires.

8. Availability and Changes

Availability depends on the feature: local documents can be used on the device, local analysis requires a supported and available on-device model, and Pro analysis, purchases, and iCloud sync depend on their respective services. Features may be updated or temporarily interrupted. Changes do not remove mandatory consumer rights or the provider's applicable obligations for digital content and services.

9. Intellectual Property

The App and all related rights (except third-party components) are owned by the provider or its licensors. No rights are granted to you other than the license expressly stated in this Agreement.

10. Third-Party Software and Icon Licenses (Open Source)

The App uses third-party libraries and icon sets, including open-source software. Such components are licensed to you under their respective license terms. Where required, copyright notices and license texts must be preserved.

The App includes a reduced local copy of the official PhosphorSwift package and Phosphor Icons. They are provided under the MIT License. The applicable license text is reproduced in Appendix A. Source: https://github.com/phosphor-icons/swift

The App uses GRDB.swift for local SQLite persistence. GRDB.swift is provided under the MIT License. The applicable license text is reproduced in Appendix B. Source: https://github.com/groue/GRDB.swift

The App also uses SF Symbols supplied by Apple through iOS and the Apple SDKs. SF Symbols are subject to Apple's applicable license terms and are not an open-source component of the App. Information: https://developer.apple.com/sf-symbols/

11. Warranty Disclaimer

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. This does not exclude mandatory statutory warranties, conformity requirements, or consumer remedies.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the provider is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from or related to your use of the App. Nothing in this Agreement limits liability where such limitation is not permitted by applicable law.

13. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time. Uninstalling it does not by itself delete iCloud content, your service account, purchase records, or copies you exported or shared. Use the App's archive and cloud-data controls for their respective data, and contact us for account-related deletion requests as described in the Privacy Policy.

The provider may suspend or terminate service access for a material breach of this agreement or misuse, subject to applicable law and your statutory rights.

14. Governing Law

To the extent permitted by law, this Agreement is governed by the laws of the Republic of Austria, excluding conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer protection laws remain unaffected.

15. Changes to This Agreement

The provider may update this Agreement to reflect changes in law, the App, or operations. The current version should be made available in the App and/or on the website.

16. Apple App Store Terms

This agreement is between you and Julian Heger, not Apple. The provider is responsible for the App, its content, support, applicable warranties, product claims (including consumer, privacy, and regulatory claims), and third-party intellectual property claims. Apple has no support obligation.

If the App fails an applicable warranty, notify Apple for a purchase-price refund. Other warranty remedies remain against the provider, preserving mandatory rights.

You must follow third-party terms and Apple's usage rules. You confirm that you are not in a US-embargoed country or one designated as supporting terrorism, and are not on a US list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are beneficiaries of this agreement and may enforce it after you accept it.

Contact details are in section 1. See Apple's minimum EULA terms.
